Experimental IPv6-only DNS root and gTLD server

Viagénie has deployed an experimental DNS root and gTLD server supporting IPv6-only queries. This server will allow anyone connected to the 6Bone to test client and server interaction with a DNS root server using the IPv6 protocol. This server won't interfere with actual IPv4 DNS root servers since the IPv6-only DNS root server will be visible only to clients and servers using a specific configuration.

Viagénie has an agreement with Network Solutions and Internic for access to Top Level Domain (gTLD) zone files for .COM, .NET, .ORG, .GOV and .EDU. While queries will be accepted over IPv6 only, it must be noted that all records in those files use IPv4 addresses.

This work is part of a project partly funded by Canarie, and the server is on the CA*net3 network. Viagénie's team is using Sun Solaris8 IPv6-ready operating system for this service.
